The Hells Gate Steel Orchestra was founded in The Point Area, 

on the beautiful island of Antigua. The band began in 1945

as an organized Iron Band. The band was called "Hells Gate"

by the people of Point because of the noise produced from the

instruments which in those days were Biscuit Cans, Metal Pipes, 

old Car Wheels, Brake Drums & Clutch Housings. The Steelpan

was introduced in 1946 when sailors traveling between Antigua and Trinidad during World War II brought Steelpans back to the island.

Since then, the band has evolved into the #1 Steelband on 

the Island. The band comprises of members of various ages,

 practicing & performing a repertoire of Calypso, Reggae,   Jazz, Classical, Pop &   Contemporary genres. The band is captained

by Mr. Keithley Athill Jr.
